Administration Overview The Provost and Chief Academic Officer
(CAO) of Touro University Nevada is the chief academic officer of
Touro University Nevada, and reports to the Chief Executive Officer
(CEO) and Senior Provost of Touro University Western Division
(TUWD). He/she is the chief advisor to the CEO and Senior Provost
of Touro University Western Division on all academic matters and
provides leadership in developing and implementing the curriculum,
instructional, and research programs of Touro University Nevada.
The Provost serves as intermediary between the CEO and Senior
Provost of TUWD and the academic deans, faculty, students and
others involved in the academic activity of the University. Budgets
for all units are prepared by the Director, Associate Vice
President, Dean or Vice President of each unit; negotiated with the
Provost, reviewed and submitted for approval by the Provost to the
CEO and Senior Provost of TUWD. He/she assists the faculty in the
preparation of research grant applications and other requests for
external funding. In the role of chief academic officer, the
Provost is responsible for human resources, physical plant,
instructional technology, and strategic planning. The Provost is
responsible to the CEO and Senior Provost of TUWD and/or her
delegated representatives for all academic and administrative
decisions made and implemented for Touro University Nevada. This
position has the responsibility for providing consultation and
review of all significant academic, fiscal and administrative
decisions for final authorization from CEO and Senior Provost of
TUWD. This individual also represents the programs and activities
of Touro University Nevada to the CEO and Senior Provost of TUWD
and/or his/her delegated representative. This includes
communications with State agencies, governmental bodies, and the
public as required in carrying out the mission of Touro University
Nevada, which is providing outstanding service to the community and
public health while maintaining an appreciation of Touro
University's Judaic heritage. The Provost will be an experienced
higher education administrator with an outstanding academic record
as a scholar or teacher. He/she will have demonstrated a commitment
to traditional areas of learning as well as new directions; have
demonstrated management skills, high ethical and professional
standards, and an ability to work effectively with accrediting
bodies as well as with alumni and prospective donors in fund
raising. The Provost should also have a commitment to diversity and
inclusiveness, and be able to effectively represent Touro and its
mission to the greater community within Touro University Nevada and
beyond. Responsibilities
- Maintain Touro University's commitment to excellence; the
mission, goals, community service activities and programs of Touro
University Nevada including its Judaic heritage and service to
humanity.
- Articulate a clear vision and strategy for the future that will
ensure the success and vitality for Touro University Nevada.
- Develop and implement strategic and operational plans and
regularly communicate with the CEO and Senior Provost of TUWD,
his/her designee and/or the Board of Trustees regarding the
progress of these plans.
- Work in concert with the campus communities to implement their
long-range academic, strategic and financial plans.
- Collaborate with the Deans to develop academic research plans
to benefit the students and further the mission and goals of Touro
University Nevada.
- Collaborate with the Deans to develop service and outreach
plans for Touro University Nevada to benefit the students and
further the mission and goals of Touro University Nevada.
- Strengthen the student-focused orientation of Touro University
through visibility and direct communication with the student
body.
- Develop a strong leadership team that is given the
responsibility and the accountability to perform their
assignments.
- Establish sound academic and administrative management
procedures, assuring appropriate evaluation, planning,
decision-making and implementation of Touro University Nevada
programs and activities, including accreditation process and
substantive changes.
- Create and sustain an environment for learning that provides
opportunities in graduate, and continuing education programs.
- Assure that the campus attends to the professional development
of its faculty and staff.
- Review the facility and space needs of the academic components,
and collaborate with all the Provosts, Deans, Department Chairs and
School Directors, appropriate, to ensure careful coordination of
academic space.
- Ensure the proper management, control and enhancement of all
resources, tangible and intangible, and be responsible for the
overall financial stability of the Nevada campus.
- Work in conjunction with the Touro University Nevada Chief
Operating Officer (COO) and VP for Finance on all campus financial
matters. The Provost will also work with the Senior Vice President
and Chief Financial Officer for the Touro College and University
System (TCUS), along with the Executive Director of Budget,
Planning, and Analysis for TCUS, on financial and budgetary matters
that relate to the Touro University Nevada campus.
- Prepare, obtain approval of, and submit an annual operating
budget that promotes achievement of short and long-term goals of
Touro while maintaining the fiscal stability and viability of Touro
University Nevada.
- Provide leadership in developing and maintaining partnerships
with the community and other healthcare organizations and
systems.
- Develop and implement academic, administrative, research and
service policies and processes for Touro University Nevada, in
alignment with Touro College and University System policies and
processes.
- Ensure Touro University Nevada's participation in the
development and implementation of and adherence to Touro College
and University System-wide administrative and financial policies
and processes.
- Collaborate with the Deans to ensure that the programs and
activities of colleges, divisions, and units reflect the academic
goals and policies of the Touro University Nevada and Touro College
and University System.
- Maintain and strengthen existing relationships with Touro
College and University System administrators, Deans and faculty;
participate in various senior leadership committees and
meetings.
- Develop strong partnerships with all relevant constituents
within the greater Touro College and University System,
collaborating and creating synergies which contribute to the
success of all campuses.
- Support and encourage the development of cooperative education,
research and service activities between faculty and staff of Touro
University Nevada and with their counterparts at other Touro
Colleges and University campuses to ensure that there are best
practices among all entities. Year One Critical Success Factors

- Oversee and ensure appropriate monitoring of key financial
metrics to maintain defined financial performance of Touro
University Nevada.
- Identify and increase specific collaborative initiatives with
healthcare systems and hospital affiliates in order to expand Touro
university Nevada's future clinical rotation sites through
development of clinical education teaching affiliations.
- Strive and support Touro's goal to develop an expanded research
footprint across healthcare disciplines, including both medical and
scientific research, in order for Touro to play an integral role in
changing the way healthcare is taught and delivered and to optimize
student research opportunities. The expansion of research should
capitalize on the historical strength of the institution:
connection to the community, public health, primary care, public
health, primary and ambulatory care. Qualifications Education,
Training and/or Related Experience: - The Provost will have:
- an earned doctorate (DO, MD, PhD, EdD is desired; JD or MBA
will be considered).
- a record of distinguished university teaching and development
of innovation in academia.
- a record of improved student outcome measures from their
leadership.
- a record of successful, peer-reviewed scholarly
activity/research.
- at least five years of experience in upper-level administration
at a graduate-level higher education institution.
- a demonstrated career progression appropriate to undertake a
position of this scope and complexity. Skills & Abilities: - The
Provost will be:
- Recognizable as a leader, possessing outstanding communication
and interpersonal skills that can be leveraged in dealings with
diverse constituencies and strategic partners, both internally and
externally, as well as cross-functionally across the university
system.

strong academic leaders, faculty, clinicians, researchers.
- Demonstrated excellent managerial, entrepreneurial, financial,
and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a complex matrix setting, build
consensus, develop new approaches to problem solving, support and
tolerate high levels of ambiguity, and recognize the worldwide
geographic nature of the university and the system.
- Demonstrated experience with strategic plan development and
implementation.
- Demonstrated experience in conflict management and
resolution.
- Demonstrated experience in working with federal, state and
local public officials. (preferred)
- Demonstrated experience in working with healthcare organization
