Providing career growth to our own employees is critical to our ongoing success--take charge of your career goals and empower your future!Job SummaryThe Business Manager will work with business leaders, plant owners and asset managers, internal customers, vendors and other subject matter experts to provide support and direction to optimize the company's business objectives and operational performance. This position is responsible for the analysis, consolidation, and presentation of all types of statistical data, information, trends and patterns for plant operations performance and financial data. The incumbent will also drive operational improvements within operations through the identification and resolution of process improvement opportunities.Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Maintains Facility accounting records in a manner consistent with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), in support of the bank, partnership and DOE in accordance with regulatory and NRG policies and procedures. Prepare journal entries and coordinate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end accruals and closing requirements. Provide both ad hoc and routine reporting
  • Stays well-informed of daily operations and analyzes variance of actual costs vs. budget. Performs economic analyses of projects and provides business recommendations.
  • Communicates regularly and effectively with Management and all site personnel to prepare site operating budget and update monthly forecasts. Support the development of technical, leadership, and business skills of employees to carry out responsibilities in a competitive environment.
  • Provides accounting advice and counsel to the Plant Manager. Responsible as the Point-of-contact for accounting, tax, and SOX audits.
  • Manage and direct the monthly accounting close process, variance analysis, departmental budgeting, payroll allocation, accounts payable/receivable, payroll and the year-end audit process for their respective plant.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of accounting records, preparation of financial reports, and development and usage of statistical and accounting information.
  • Appraise operating results in terms of costs, budgets, trends, and earnings.
  • Provide support for Ivanpah purchasing needs as a small role buyer for purchases typically under $25K
  • Utilize multiple data sources to collect, analyze, consolidate, and provide timely, accurate, presentation of all types of mission-critical business metrics, trends, and patterns within plant operations; including plant performance (availability and reliability), safety, and financials (Capex, O&M, and G&A). Utilize data sources appropriately for specific ad hoc assignments. Effectively convert data to meaningful information for executives.
  • Vendor Relationship Management - work with office and certain plant vendors to ensure services are priced at a value to NRG and delivered in accordance with specifications. Includes obtaining quotes and working with a wide variety of vendors; management of approved and qualified vendors including system documentation and involved in coordinating RFQ information to vendors and obtaining quotes - responsible for selection of vendor in some cases; utilize SAP system to manage work orders and purchase orders; and assigned as facility Purchasing Representative and related procedural requirements
  • Inventory Management - Inventory is properly secured, identified and reported and that inventory is procured in accordance with company policy
  • Overall Responsibility for Administrative Facilities Management including investigation of and purchasing office supplies, office equipment (including telecommunications, IT equipment and services, etc.).
  • Satisfactorily learn and demonstrate proficiency in computer software as needed by the company including learning system processes and report generation in order to facilitate needs from the system of other employees. Includes assisting with various input and managing the workflow through of system activity.
  • Supervise office staff
  • Assist in the preparation and review of financial and operational business planning and forecasting activities in coordination with FP&A (PowerSam, Plant Characteristics, and Planned Outage Schedules).
  • Support all operations activities through collection and analysis of information and the dissemination of intelligence on financial and operational plant performance; perform detailed analysis and prepare comprehensive reports to support all business functions.
    • Design and implement reports, tools, and presentations that lead to more effective and efficient decision-making. Examples include monthly and quarterly scorecards, strategic reports, and dashboards.
      • Assist in the preparation and review of financial and operational business planning and forecasting activities in coordination with Owner and/or Owner Representative.
        • Develop, manage, and track the Plant AIP metric process.
          • Work closely with other members of the organization, building relationships and the understanding of organizational roles within NRG while establishing productive & influential relationships across all functional areas to ensure consistent and well-coordinated presentation and analysis.
            • Coordinate and maintain open communication between the Plant, Asset management company, Plant Owners and NRG corporate.
              • Promote and maintain an environment of teamwork and cooperation among staff.
                • Serve as an NRG representative on issues with project partners and external contractors.
                  • Requires operation of a personal computer.Working Conditions
                    • Normal office environment and/or out of doors work environment.
                      • Work overtime and non-standard working hours as required.
                        • Frequently requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.)
                          • May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals.
                            • May require occasional travel (less than 15% of the time).Minimum Requirements
                              • Bachelor's degree in Business or Engineering AND 1 - 3 years related business experience in budgeting, accounting and capital, operation and maintenance projects or in lieu of Bachelor's degree, the successful candidate must have a minimum of 5 - 8 years business experience in budgeting, accounting and capital, operation and maintenance projects is required.
                                • Must possess a valid Driver's License.Preferred Qualifications
                                  • CPA or MBA desirable.
                                    • Power plant and energy industry experience .Additional KSAs
                                      • Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations in industrial environments.
                                        • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills with careful attention to detail, accuracy and precision; candidates must demonstrate unquestionable trust, superior performance, and have a commitment to highest standards of quality and integrity.
                                          • Can perform work that is complex and varied in nature. Defines and discerns key aspects of a problem and integrated solutions to resolve highly complex business issues. Recognized expert in business leadership, and often provides strategic direction, guidance and integration of planning, process development, and reporting.
                                            • Ability to translate and communicate data into actionable business information.
                                              • Ability to meet short deadlines and turn around information with high quality.
                                                • Advanced proficiency in standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint), specialized business technologies and applications
                                                  • Excellent communication skills: including strong oral and writing skills, and the ability to effectively listen as well as a willingness to voice opinions and offer solutions.
                                                    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
                                                      • Comprehensive knowledge and strict adherence to NRG business practices, procedures and principles.
                                                        • Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
